The amount of calorie burned during exercise depends on your weight, height and age, health condition and intensity of workout. Here are some basic numbers for those who would like to calculate how much calories they need to burn in order to maintain their body weight or lose weight.

Note that 3,500 calories is equal to one pound of body weight. Therefore if you want to lose 1 pound weight you will have to burn more than 3,500 calories.

The energy value of 1 calorie is the same as 4.186 kilojoules.
